Everyone wants to be listened to.

Sometimes it can be difficult because people are simply listening to respond, instead of listening to hear what the other person has to say.

This occurs at times in real estate. Some agents may not think they need to hear your concerns to get your home sold. We encourage you to speak up, make sure all your points are addressed and all your questions are answered.

Think about it.

If you were on a first date and the person was dismissing everything you said and not listening to you, would you want to see them again?

The obvious answer to that question is no.

Below are some tips on how to tell if an agent is – or isn’t – listening to you.

  • Their body is turned away from you
  • They rush you along to get to your point
  • They interrupt too frequently

  • They mimic what you just said and confirm that they understand
  • They pause for a few seconds before they respond
  • They ask questions and may take notes

Why it is important to have a real estate agent who listens

Selling or buying a house is a lengthy process and different tactics and strategies are used based on the home owner’s motivations and the current state of the marketplace. If your real estate agent isn’t listening to you, they aren’t going to be able to put the best plan in place based on your specific needs.
